Although I've lived in New York for 10 years, I was born and raised
in Texas. Why does that always come out sounding a little like
I'm a truck in a Ford commercial?
Before I got into advertising at the University of Texas at Austin,
I briefly considered studying classics. In the end, I settled for a
mythologically-inspired tattoo that actually sorta resembles
asparagus.
In college I also spent a summer giving campfire talks on cacti and
running from rattlesnakes as a volunteer ranger at a
remote national park in west Texas.
My first job was at a Wendy's, age 16. From there things just got
better and better—telemarketing, selling weenies on a
stick. Oh, and I worked on a state-wide political campaign
that lost to George W. Bush's team.
Why yes, I am a certified diamontologist.
Among my favorite things in the world (in no particular order):
pancakes, museums, baths, camping, organizing stuff,
walking, thrift shopping, reading, fabric-softener smell, road trips,
early mornings and 80s TV shows.
Speaking of 80s TV, I once had the honor of working with Jo
(Nancy McKeon) from “The Facts of Life.” She,
along with a troupe of Australian male strippers, starred in a series
of webisodes I wrote for Schick women's razors. Pretty sure I shaved
my legs for that shoot…
At one point in my early twenties, I paid the bills by giving
makeovers at a cosmetics counter—nevermind that I had no idea
what I was doing. So to all those badly-blushed ladies I
wronged at Highland Mall: I am sorry.
Despite kinda wishing I had one, no I do not have a Texas
accent.
While I have been working as a copywriter for over 12 years, I
actually started out as a graphic designer and
still like to pretend I am one from time to time.
For several years, my husband and I lived insidean old corner bar in Queens.
If none of that scared you off, you can give me a holler
if you need a freelancer. Need a little further convincing? Read
